Energy Control Systems Developer

Spectral is seeking an Energy Control Systems Developer to join our Smart Energy Systems (SES) Control team. You will work closely with software developers, project managers and fellow control engineers on developing the SES Controller product and roll-out of that product to various use cases. Typical use cases are the optimization of operation of various (renewable) energy assets behind the same grid connection or grid level solutions, alleviating congestion issues.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The solutions you will work on are on the cutting-edge of smart grid and energy management technologies.

Your tasks might include:

  • Design and implement control modules and functionality of the SES Controller product
  • Design specific control algorithms for project use cases
  • Configure, commissioning and test the various Spectral software products during the roll-out for use cases
  • Work together and coordinate with software developers, project managers and fellow control engineers to arrive at the best overall solution for the client, including the definition of functional requirements, testing and operating procedures, hardware selection, etc.

ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate is skilled in both control- and software engineering. You either have an academic background in control engineering with practical experience writing software or a degree in software engineering with knowledge about control systems. You should have strong practical familiarity with the domain of systems analysis, design, and operation for critical applications.

We’re looking for someone who is innovative and passionate about applying technology to find optimal solutions for complex challenges. You should have high attention to detail, be a proactive problem solver and work well in a team. Most of all, we’re looking for someone who is highly motivated to join us on our mission to accelerate the sustainable energy transition.

Our team is highly international and based in Amsterdam North. Fluency in written and spoken English is a must, and Dutch language skills are a definite bonus. The role is full time.

MUST-HAVES

  • 3-5 years relevant professional work experience

  • Practical experience with systems integration and implementing mission-critical control systems and related principles such as redundancy, high uptime, etc.

  • Hands-on experience with developing control and optimization algorithms, including both classical and modern control techniques, such as PID and state-space methods

  • Hands-on experience with developing clean code software solutions

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Fluency in English

NICE-TO-HAVES

  • Working in the languages of C# and Python;

  • Working with Git

  • Previous experience within the Dutch energy industry, with a strong understanding of power systems and renewable energy, energy storage technologies

  • Working with Modbus and other industry standard communication protocols

  • Fluency in Dutch
